Our October 2011 Drug take Back Day was a tremendous success! The next Drug Take Back day is scheduled for April 28, 2012, details soon!

Thousands of prescription drugs produced and prescribed by physicians for legitimate use end up in the wrong place or with the wrong person. The issue is two-fold; unused prescription drugs being "flushed" or otherwise disposed of improperly and prescription drugs ending up in the possession of persons for whom the drugs were not prescribed. Drugs that have been thrown in the trash or "flushed" have shown up in trace amounts in the drinking water of over 30 states. Prescription drug abuse (including using or stealing someone else?s legitimate prescription) has reached epidemic proportions in the United States. Many communities hold regular "take back" events where residents can safely bring their unwanted drugs for disposal. TCCASA has held two Drug Take Back Days and is scheduling the next one for the spring of 2012. This event will once again coincide with the "National Drug Take Back Day" sponsored by the National Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). The Tioga County Council on Addiction will holding this event with the support of the Tioga County Sheriff's Department, the Tioga County Health Department and the DEA. The Take Back events are always free of charge and it is a "stop and drop" process where participants will not have to exit their cars. Would you please consider stopping by with your unused, un-wanted or expired medications? We will accept prescriptions (mark out personal information with a marker), pills, powders, liquids, inhalers, epi-pens, non-prescription (over the counter) drugs and pet medications. You can help both the environment and our community with your support!
